Football legend sacked as Serie A strugglers continue to chase PNE captain Alan Browne

Salernitana have made a managerial change amid lingering rumours surrounding a move for Preston North End captain Alan Browne.

PNE had a very quiet January transfer window, failing to bring in a new signing to bolster Ryan Lowe’s squad.

Considerable summer spending meant January was always likely to be a damp squib, but it almost got a bit lively before the deadline.

Reports from Italy indicated that Serie A strugglers Salernitana were moving in for PNE captain Alan Browne.

The deadline arrived with Browne still at Deepdale but Sky Sports claim that Salernitana will still attempt a pre-contract agreement with the Irishman.

Browne is out of contract at the end of the season and there has been little movement on a potential deal to extend his stay at Deepdale.

After 10 years at PNE, Browne could yet be on the move – but Salernitana don’t exactly look like the most attractive club right now.

Salernitana sack Pippo Inzaghi amid Alan Browne pursuit

Salernitana currently sit bottom of the Serie A table with just 13 points from 24 games.

Two wins all season mean Salernitana are six points adrift of safety and in real danger of slipping back into Serie B.

Friday’s 3-1 defeat to Empoli has now proven to be the end for boss Pippo Inzaghi, who has officially been sacked today.

Not only is Inzaghi – an absolute legend from his playing days – on his way out, but Salernitana have already announced Fabio Liverani as his replacement.

The former Leyton Orient boss will now come in and try to keep Salernitana afloat as they make change after change in search of a turnaround.

Salernitana recently added two veteran centre backs in Jerome Boateng and Kostas Manolas and have now made a managerial change, desperately seeking any kind of move to stay up.

We can’t imagine Browne will fancy committing to a pre-contract with Salernitana right now, not whilst they hover over the Serie A trap door and having made a managerial change.

Most PNE fans are clear; they want Browne to stay and rack up more and more appearances for North End.

The 28-year-old still has so much more to give and we love to see him show it with PNE rather than head to Italy or anywhere else, for that matter.
