Preston North End look set to dodge a meeting with Cameron Archer this season as nears a move to Sheffield United.

It sounded like PNE would be facing off against Archer twice this season.

Football League World reported on Tuesday that Leeds United were leading the race to sign Archer alongside Sheffield United.

The Whites were chasing a loan deal for Archer in the hope that the Aston Villa striker would give them a boost in their promotion push.

However, Sheffield United have now pushed to the front of the queue and are on the verge of signing Archer.

Sky Sports report that Sheffield United have agreed a deal worth a huge £18million for 21-year-old striker.

Archer’s brother Aaron has caused some panic in the Sheffield United fanbase by suggesting on Twitter that he hasn’t heard anything about a move to Bramall Lane.

The deal is still expected to go through with Archer completing a permanent move away from Villa Park.

Villa are thought to have a buy-back clause as part of the deal, opening up the possibility for Archer to return to Villa Park one day.

Archer will have to shine in the Premier League for that to happen but would anyone really bet against him?

Archer was outstanding on loan at PNE and then excelled for Middlesbrough too, preparing himself for life in the Premier League.

Sheffield United will need goals and Archer is a natural finisher, so we’re of course backing him to shine in South Yorkshire.

PNE fans will just be glad that there won’t be another run-in with Archer this season given his superb brace against North End in March.

North End supporters will be in Archer’s corner as he prepares to make a Premier League impact, joining forces with PNE summer target Yasser Larouci in the process.
