Josh Onomah is now training with Stoke City as he searches for a club after leaving Preston North End.

The Telegraph’s Mike McGrath reports that Onomah has joined up with Stoke for training in order to keep fit.

However, it’s noted that there is a possibility that Onomah can earn a permanent contract at Stoke if he impressed.

McGrath adds that Championship clubs are keen on Onomah whilst there is also interest from around Europe.

This comes after Onomah was let go by PNE at the end of last season.

North End pounced to sign Onomah to a short-term contract on deadline day in January as the midfielder left Fulham.

Onomah wasn’t exactly match-fit after half a season in the wilderness at Fulham, and it took a while for us to see him play considerable minutes.

The 26-year-old only managed four starts for PNE, although he did turn in strong performances against QPR and Reading over Easter.

Onomah’s exit was shrouded in confusion.

PNE confirmed that not only had Onomah been offered a new contract, but he had actually accepted the offer.

North End did though add that there were complications in the talks and PNE decided to pull away in late June.

Ryan Lowe has since brought in two midfielders with Mads Frøkjær-Jensen and Duane Holmes arriving, seemingly ruling out a way back for Onomah.

Nearly a month on from PNE’s announcement, the former Tottenham talemnt still doesn’t have a new club and could end up joining Alex Neil with Stoke.

We have already seen Ben Pearson and Daniel Johnson join the Potters this summer having worked under Neil at PNE.

Neil and Onomah of course never crossed paths at Deepdale, but he is now looking to impress at Stoke – and potentially form a midfield full of former North End players.
