Preston have had a frustrating deadline day so far, but may be about to cap it off in style with the signing of St Johnstone midfielder Ali McCann.
Fans have been sat refreshing Twitter all day waiting – or rather hoping – for transfer news to emerge from Deepdale.
A move for Sheyi Ojo fell apart, and it looked like Preston would end deadline day without bringing any new faces to Lancashire.
However, The Sun’s Alan Nixon claims that Preston are now close to making a huge signing by landing Ali McCann from St Johnstone.
Nixon claims Preston are about to close a deal for McCann, who wants to make the move to England before the transfer deadline.
Preston don’t have long to get this deal done, but it looks like North End are now pushing for a club-record signing in the coming minutes.
St Johnstone allegedly made it clear that they wanted £3million for McCann, and even if Preston somehow work that down to £2million, that’s still a club record.
McCann has shown his quality on a regular basis for St Johnstone and could now give Preston even more quality in midfield alongside Ryan Ledson and Ben Whiteman.
McCann has even played in Europe with St Johnstone, and having been schooled by ex-Preston ace Callum Davidson up in Scotland, he now looks set for North End too.
