Ben Davies may have played his final game for Preston having started in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Sheffield Wednesday.

Many clubs have been linked with Davies of late; Sheffield United, Burnley, Bournemouth, Celtic… but it’s a much bigger fish swooping in.

Liverpool are in talks over a £2million deal to sign Davies, with the 25-year-old seemingly nearing a shock deadline day move to Anfield.

The centre back is out of contract at the end of the season, meaning this is Preston’s last possible chance to sell and get some money in for him.

Alex Neil will have hoped to keep Davies, but few could really begrudge Davies making the move to Anfield – it’s a once-in-a-lifetime move.

Liverpool beat West Ham United 3-1 at the London Stadium today, and boss Jurgen Klopp was unsurprisingly asked about Davies after the full time whistle.

Speaking to The Mirror, Klopp offered something of a joke when asked about signing a player called Ben Davies, merely noting that Tottenham also have a player of the same name.

Klopp played his cards close to his chest, claiming there was nothing to add to the story – but Davies may well become his new centre back tomorrow.

“Tottenham, Ben Davies as well? [smiles] No, nothing to say,” said Klopp. “By the way Nat Phillips played a decent game and Milly told Hendo he better be careful playing like this because you’ll play there for the rest of your career!”
