Preston North End can probably rest easy over Freddie Woodman’s future with Leeds United set to sign Karl Darlow.
PNE knew they had landed a coup last summer as Woodman arrived from Newcastle United.
We certainly saw Woodman’s quality last season as he turned in exceptional displays, winning North End’s Sir Tom Finney Player of the Year award.
Woodman is one of PNE’s top players and maybe we should have expected transfer rumours to surround him.
The Scottish Sun reported in March that Rangers, Leeds United and Leicester City were all keen on signing Woodman.
One by one, those clubs have seemingly been moving away from that interest.
Rangers landed Jack Butland before Leicester completed a deal for Danish stopper Mads Hermansen from Brondby.
That left Leeds – and we were starting to worry about a move from Daniel Farke’s side having missed out on some goalkeeping targets.
Leeds were allegedly keen on James Trafford before he left Manchester City for a permanent move to Burnley.
Bayern Munich goalkeeper Alexander Nubel was also considered but he has chosen a move to Stuttgart.
The Athletic brought up three other names; Woodman, Karl Darlow and Angus Gunn.

Norwich City are unlikely to be keen on selling Gunn to Leeds whilst Darlow looked set for a move from Newcastle United to Bournemouth.
That left us very worried that Leeds would turn to Woodman next with a number of other targets falling by the wayside.
However, Bournemouth have now lined up a deal for Inter Milan goalkeeper Ionut Radu as competition for Norberto Neto.
That now means that Darlow is expected to join Leeds, with Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie claiming that the 32-year-old stopper will now undergo a medical with the Whites.
That should bring an end to Leeds’ interest in Woodman and allow PNE fans to breathe a sigh of relief with the star goalkeeper seemingly poised to stay at Deepdale.
