Preston are hoping to bring in a new striker before the end of the month, and Manchester City’s Liam Delap is believed to be a target.

North End do have striking options at the club right now, but Peter Ridsdale as indicated that another hitman will be the last signing this summer.

There aren’t many rumours doing the rounds right now, but Manchester City teenager Delap remains a name on the radar.

Lancs Live reported in July that Preston were hoping to take Delap on loan for the season, vying with Championship clubs for his signature.

No decision has been made on Delap’s future just yet, and it may all depend on whether Manchester City can find a new striker of their own.

Pep Guardiola’s men want to sign Harry Kane, but with that deal seeming tricky, Delap may be needed to offer striking depth at the Etihad Stadium.

Delap wasn’t involved in City’s 1-0 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, and appears to still be nursing an injury.

He has though told Sky Sports that he is really happy with City and will trust them to make the right decision for his future.

Preston did help Lukas Nmecha’s development in a 2018-19 loan spell, so City may see some benefit in sending Delap to Deepdale, but the striker himself doesn’t appear to be worrying about the situation.

“Obviously, it’s up to the club,” said Delap. “I think what’s happened at the club so far has been amazing for me and I trust them to make the right decision. I’ve been extremely happy with everything that’s happened at City. I’m really happy here and I’ll just see what the club want to do for me.”

“I just want to keep working hard and obviously every chance I get to go and play in the first team I go and take it. I just work as hard as I can and every minute I get is an added bonus. As a footballer, you just want to play as much as you can and that will be my target this season, just to play as much as I can,” he added.
