Preston fans may have been looking to see Liam Delap in action against North End today, but the Manchester City striker looks set to miss out.
Frankie McAvoy’s men take on the Premier League champions in a pre-season friendly this evening as both sides prepare for the new season.
With many City players still on breaks following international commitments this summer, we’re expecting to see a number of young players in action.
One of them expected to play was Delap, who is wanted at Preston this summer according to Lancs Live. We also believe there is quiet confidence at Deepdale that the striker will end up joining North End on loan.
Delap smashed a ridiculous 24 goals and five assists in 20 Premier League 2 outings last season, and may now be ready for a loan move to the Championship.
The 18-year-old could stay local by signing for Preston, whilst a year on loan at North End certainly helped the progress of former City striker Lukas Nmecha.
Preston could have seen Delap first-hand today ahead of potentially striking a deal, but that now doesn’t look likely to happen.
The Manchester Evening News report that Delap and fellow youngster Tommy Doyle were not seen in training on Monday and may not be involved.
Neither are named in the MEN’s provisional squad for the game, and some City fans think Delap may be self-isolating after City shut down their training ground for a deep clean last week.
It would be good to see Delap in action against the Preston back line, but the noises from Manchester are that Delap could be missing today’s game.
