Preston North End have been linked with Hammarby defender Nathaniel Adjei but offers of nearly £2million have already been rejected.

2024 has to be the year of defensive additions at PNE.

Patrick Bauer has become a forgotten man and questions linger over Jordan Storey, Liam Lindsay and Andrew Hughes as starting defenders for a team chasing the Championship playoffs

North End have been linked with a number of defenders in recent times, including Crewe Alexandra’s Connor O’Riordan, but one rumoured target is surely moving out of reach…

Hammarby reject bids for PNE-linked Nathaniel Adjei

Reports in November suggested that PNE had opened talks to sign Hammarby defender Nathaniel Adjei.

It was claimed that North End wanted to take Adjei on loan with a view to a permanent deal in the summer.

Hammarby wanted around £3million for Adjei though, a price tag which would surely have been beyond North End.

That rumour hasn’t really advanced since then, but the likes of Leeds United and Sunderland have been heavily linked with the Ghanaian.

More claims are emerging in Sweden with Football Direkt claiming that Hammarby have received offers of around 25 Million SEK – which converts to around £1.9million.

Hammarby have rejected those bids as they around around 35-40 Million SEK – around £2.6million to £3million.

After committing considerable fees to the signings of Milutin Osmajic and Mads Frøkjær-Jensen, we can’t see PNE striking a deal with that kind of value included.

The rumours do indicate that PNE are still looking abroad for potential signings after landing Osmajic and Frøkjær-Jensen over the summer.

Adjei would fit the bill as an athletic centre back with potential to develop into a star, but the money is likely to be just beyond North End in this January window.

In fact, we would be surprised to see anybody arrive at Deepdale this month, with a quiet January window expected.
