Ipswich Town are on the verge of signing AFC Wimbledon striker Ali Al-Hamadi ahead of their trip to face Preston North End on Saturday.

The January transfer deadline is fast approaching but it’s hard to see PNE getting involved in too much business.

This has been a quiet month for North End and unless some departures materialise, PNE will probably go without an addition this month.

Other Championship clubs are doing business though and promotion-chasing Ipswich Town are certainly looking to strengthen.

The Tractor Boys were beaten by Maidstone United in the FA Cup on Saturday and now look set to back boss Kieran McKenna with a new striker.

Ipswich Town set to sign Ali Al-Hamadi ahead of PNE clash

Ipswich head to Deepdale to take on PNE on Saturday afternoon and may – if they are lucky – have a new face involved.

The East Anglian Daily Times report that Ipswich have agreed a fee of over £1million for AFC Wimbledon striker Ali Al-Hamadi.

It’s stated that Al-Hamadi has undergone a medical in Qatar as he is currently at the Asian Cup with Iraq.

Iraq and Al-Hamadi take on Jordan for a spot in the quarter-finals today and a win there would rule him out for this weekend’s clash at Deepdale.

Defeat today would put Al-Hamadi in contention though and North End may be hoping that Ipswich are without their new front man this weekend.

After all, PNE are seemingly well aware of Al-Hamadi having shown an interest in him last summer, according to a report from Football Insider.

The 21-year-old – formerly of Swansea City and Wycombe Wanderers – has smashed 13 goals and six assists in 23 League Two games this season.

Now set for a move to Portman Road, Al-Hamadi can now play a big role in Ipswich’s push towards the Premier League.

Ipswich certainly need to get back on track against PNE this weekend having suffered that embarrassing defeat to Maidstone United, but whether Al-Hamadi will be able to make his debut at Deepdale is unclear right now.
