Preston are closing in on Andre Gray with an agreement for the free agent striker now reportedly drawing nearer.
North End undoubtedly need to bring in at least one striker this summer to bolster Ryan Lowe’s attack.
Cameron Archer is heading back to Aston Villa and it sadly seems unlikely that he will be returning next season.
Emil Riis enjoyed a great season but Ched Evans and Seani Maguire combined for just three league goals last season.
Lowe is a former striker himself and knows he needs to bring in more goals to really take Preston forward.
Preston are closing in on Andre Gray
Links to Gray first emerged in May as The Sun reported that Preston were eyeing a deal to sign the striker for free.
Watford have confirmed that they are releasing Gray this summer and he will be free to find a new club.
Despite links to other Championship clubs, Football Insider now claim that Gray is nearing a move to Preston.
They suggest that talks over a deal for Gray are advanced and now drawing towards a positive conclusion.
Gray, 30, is a close friend of Preston playmaker Daniel Johnson and the Jamaican international duo could now join forces at North End.
Gray hit 10 goals in 28 games on loan at Queens Park Rangers last season.
Broken down, that was six goals in 13 starts and four goals in 15 substitute appearances.
Gray knows the Lancashire area having previously played for Burnley and could now be given a starring role at Preston.
Lowe has talked up wanting Championship experience and Gray certainly fits that bill having racked up 56 goals in 146 second-tier appearances over the course of his career.
There will always be the threat of missing out until a deal is signed, sealed and delivered but it sounds like Gray is edging towards a move to Preston.
