Report: Preston want to sign Bersant Celina after Ipswich Town loan

Preston are interested in signing Bersant Celina after he impressed on loan at Ipswich Town in League One last season.

North End face something of a rebuild this summer with a 20-player exodus on the cards.

13 players were released earlier this week as Preston announced their retained list.

Add in four loan players leaving the club and three players being transfer listed and you see the scale of Preston’s task.

Ryan Lowe needs to be backed with new signings and it looks like he wants to bring Celina to Deepdale.

Preston are interested in signing Bersant Celina

Reports from TWTD claim that Preston have joined the race to sign Dijon playmaker Celina.

Celina is back with Dijon this summer having been on loan at League One side Ipswich Town last season.

The French side paid £3million to sign Celina from Swansea City back in 2020.

Celina, 25, hit six goals and six assists for Ipswich during his loan spell.

The former Manchester City talent is a Kosovo international and has one goal in 29 caps for his country.

Ipswich want to keep Celina, so Preston will face competition for his signature, and TWTD claim that other clubs could join the race too.

You can hardly blame Ipswich for wanting to keep Celina after this stunning Goal of the Season winner.

Do Preston need Celina?

The view is that Preston don’t need another midfielder.

Ben Whiteman, Ryan Ledson, Alan Browne, Ali McCann and Daniel Johnson are all vying for places in midfield.

There are also high hopes for youngsters like Noah Mawene and Aaron Bennett.

Yet we do think that Preston need another playmaker. There is so much attacking emphasis placed on Johnson, as he is relied upon for ball-carrying and creativity in the final third.

Celina is the kind of player that could bring more guile to the Preston side and we saw him hit 10 goals and 11 assists in 79 outings for Swansea City.

An important note here is that Preston assistant Mike Marsh actually coached Celina at Swansea during the 2019-20 season.

That connection could be key to Preston’s interest and may just give Celina a reason to pick North End.
