Preston may have new hope of signing Aston Villa striker Cameron Archer as Steven Gerrard’s men chase the signing of another striker.
The Athletic report that Villa are discussing bringing in a new striker, with Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah on the radar.
Steven Gerrard seemingly wants another striker to support Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings in the Villa first team.
That would then allow Archer to go out on loan amid strong interest from Championship clubs.
Archer currently isn’t being allowed out because Villa loaned fellow striker Keinan Davis to Nottingham Forest.
Preston are keen on Archer according to the Daily Mail, but this latest report suggests that Queens Park Rangers, Sheffield United, Stoke City and even our bitter rivals Blackburn Rovers are interested too.
Archer, 20, has hit 10 goals in just six games across EFL Trophy and EFL Cup appearances this season.
Add in two goals in three Premier League 2 games and Archer just can’t stop scoring for Villa.
The next step for the 20-year-old is first-team football out on loan, and at 20 he seems primed for a Championship spell.

Preston may well be favourites thanks to manager Ryan Lowe’s relationship with Steven Gerrard; the pair go way back in the Liverpool football scene and have done deals together in the past.
North End need another goal threat in attack, and Archer can offer the until the end of the season.
Two sources have told us that a loan move for Archer is advancing, though George Hodgson of Lancs Live notes that no deal has yet been done – even if Archer wants the move.
Add in that fairly reliable Twitter account Football Insights have tweeted that Archer is ‘Preston bound’ and it looks like this one could happen.
If that comes to fruition, let’s hope it’s more of a Callum Robinson deal than an Andre Green one.
