Bambo Diaby robbed of chance to impress Ryan Lowe as Preston move hangs in the balance

Preston have been running the rule over free agent defender Bambo Diaby, but his big chance to impress Ryan Lowe has now been scrapped.

North End welcomed Diaby for training in December as they weighed up whether or not to secure a permanent deal.

Diaby, 24, has been out of football for two years having tested positive for the banned substance higenamine.

Whilst his ban was only announced in October 2020, the ban was backdated to January 2020 when the test was positive.

That ban expired on January 16th, meaning Diaby is now able to play in behind-closed-doors games and friendlies.

Boss Lowe has admitted that he wants to see Diaby in a full game before making a decision on a contract.

Lowe admitted to Lancs Live just days ago that the plan was to see Diaby in action against Huddersfield Town in the Central League.

That game was supposed to be today, but Preston have confirmed that the game has been cancelled.

North End’s Championship clash with West Bromwich Albion now takes place on Wednesday, meaning the Huddersfield clash is now off.

That means Diaby has been robbed of a chance to impress Lowe, with his chances of a contract at Preston now in the balance.

Preston don’t play again in the Central League until February 15th, which would mean North End keeping Diaby training for at least another three weeks.

When Jordan Storey was loaned to Sheffield Wednesday, it looked like Diaby would be coming in to bolster the back line.

Today’s postponement suddenly brings Diaby’s future into more doubt than ever before, with Lowe potentially reluctant to sanction a deal until the centre back plays 90 minutes.
