Preston are in talks for Benjamin Siegrist as Ryan Lowe seeks to lure the Dundee United goalkeeper to Lancashire this summer.
There is no doubting that Preston need to bring in goalkeepers this summer.
Player of the Year Daniel Iversen has headed back to Leicester City whilst Declan Rudd has retired.
Add in that Connor Ripley has been released alongside Mathew Hudson, Oliver Lombard and Declyn Duggan and Preston have overseen a goalkeeping exodus.
A number of stoppers have already been linked with Preston, including Gavin Bazunu, and another can be added to the list in Benjamin Siegrist.
Preston are in talks for Benjamin Siegrist
The Sun’s Alan Nixon reports that Preston boss Ryan Lowe has opened talks with goalkeeper Siegrist.
It’s stated that Lowe is keen to bring three new goalkeepers to Preston and Siegrist is now emerging as a top target.
Celtic and Manchester United are both interested in Siegrist too but they would only want him as a number two.
Preston are allegedly giving Siegrist the chance to become first-choice goalkeeper at Deepdale in the hope of convincing him.
That has to appeal to the 30-year-old stopper who has come on leaps and bounds at Dundee United.
Siegrist has been hailed as one of the top goalkeepers in Scotland and Chris Sutton has hailed him as ‘brilliant’.
The Swiss goalkeeper has though decided that it’s time to move on and confirmed his departure on Instagram last weekend.
Formerly of Aston Villa, Siegrist played in their development squads with Daniel Johnson and the pair could reunite at Preston.
Rumour rating: 8/10. Siegrist is the kind of quality goalkeeper North End need and his free agent status is very appealing. The reporter in question, Alan Nixon, has been reliable in terms of Preston of late having broken news of North End’s interest in Andre Gray and been on top of Chris Kirchner’s takeover bid. Siegrist certainly makes sense as a target for Preston but the interest from bigger clubs is a fear and North End have been quick to play down most rumours in recent times.
