Preston are on the verge of completing their move for Aston Villa striker Cameron Archer, with the deal allegedly to be confirmed on Monday.

North End are keen to bring in another striker to give Ryan Lowe more of a goal threat up top.

The goal have dried up a little for Emil Riis of late, whilst Ched Evans has yet to score under Lowe.

It was suggested on Saturday that Archer had been left out of the Aston Villa squad to face Everton because he was completing his move to Preston.

Now, talkSPORT’s transfer reporter Alex Crook has taken to Twitter to claim that Archer should be announced as a Preston player on Monday.

Crook claims that Preston have beaten competition from Championship and League One clubs to sign Archer, with Portsmouth keen.

The key factor in Archer joining Preston is that Lowe has a great relationship with Steven Gerrard.

The pair go way back in the Liverpool football scene and have often done deals together in the past.

Their latest will see Archer head to Preston on loan until the end of the season, gaining value experience in the Championship.

Archer, 20, has shown himself to be a real goalscoring talent in the Villa development ranks.

With four goals in two EFL Cup games and six goals in four EFL Trophy games, Archer just can’t stop scoring.

Archer is though behind Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings at Villa and the next logical step in his development is to get out on loan.

Lowe has managed to swing a favour from Gerrard and is now seemingly hours away from having his first Preston signing announced.
