Ched Evans is surely staying at Preston this summer after Wigan Athletic signed not one but two strikers in recent days.

North End are in the market for another striker this summer after already landing Troy Parrott on loan.

That need for strikers may become even more urgent given that Middlesbrough are now interested in signing Emil Riis.

Seani Maguire is still out injured and his lack of goals, injury record and expiring contract mean he isn’t been counted upon for the long-term.

Ched Evans is another option in North End’s attack but there have been questions about his future of late.

Wigan Athletic are understood to be interested in signing Evans despite his red card against the Latics on the opening day of the season.

The Welshman is out of contract at the end of the season and it’s hard to see him landing a new deal as things stand.

Evans turns 34 in December and only managed two league goals last season. The veteran striker hasn’t found the net at all since Ryan Lowe’s arrival as manager in December 2021.

It would be a surprise to see Preston give Evans a new contract but they also can’t really afford to lose him right now.

Lowe has indicated that he has no interest in losing Evans and Wigan have seemingly moved on.

Wigan snapped up Everton talent Nathan Broadhead on loan, with the versatile forward giving Leam Richardson another attacking option after a strong loan spell at Sunderland last season.

The Latics have also secured Ashley Fletcher on loan from Watford, meaning Wigan have plenty of options in the final third now.

It’s hard to see them making a real push for Evans now, and we would expect him to see out this final year at Preston before likely moving on at the end of the season.
