Chris Maxwell is wanted by Everton as the former Preston goalkeeper potentially earns a shock move to the Premier League.
Maxwell’s time at Preston can certainly be described as ‘mixed’.
Signed on a free transfer from Fleetwood Town in 2016, Maxwell quickly displaced Anders Lindegaard as North End’f first-choice stopper.
Maxwell made the position his own and looked like a bargain for North End.
68 appearances in his first two seasons was a strong start but Maxwell’s time at Preston really dipped in 2019.
Maxwell lost his place to Declan Rudd and even when he got a chance, he managed to get sent off for two bookable offences at Ipswich Town.
That was pretty much the end for Maxwell at Preston and after loan spells at Charlton Athletic and Hibernian, the Welshman was allowed to join rivals Blackpool in 2020.

The 31-year-old stopper was in and out of the Blackpool side last season but is largely seen as backup to Daniel Grimshaw.
Preston fans took great pleasure in seeing Cameron Archer finish past Maxwell as North End beat Blackpool in April.
What may stun Preston fans though is that Maxwell is now being eyed for a shock Premier League move.
Lancs Live report that Everton have been making a move for Maxwell but the deal has now stalled.

The plan was for Maxwell to head to Everton as a backup to Jordan Pickford but the move is in danger of collapsing.
It’s worth noting here that Everton’s goalkeeper coach Alan Kelly was North End’s keeper coach during Maxwell’s first season at the club.
The pair could now reunite a Goodison Park in what may seem like a truly bizarre move to many Preston fans.
The role of backup Premier League goalkeeper is well-known by now and Maxwell may soon be able to take that job at Goodison Park – possibly replacing a former North End stopper in Andrew Lonergan.
