Preston striker Emil Riis continues to be linked away from North End with reports in Denmark now claiming an offer is on the table.

Riis smashed 20 goals in all competitions last season as he started to fulfil some of his enormous potential.

Signed from Randers for £1.2million back in 2020, Riis endured a difficult first season in England but massively improved last season.

The problem for North End is that goals attract interest – just look at Jordan Hugill and Callum Robinson in recent years.

Middlesbrough have been showing a strong interest in Riis and The Northern Echo claimed earlier this month that Boro have opened talks over a deal.

Danish newspaper BT now report that an unnamed English club have offered DKK 65 million (£7.5million) for Riis ahead of Thursday’s transfer deadline.

We would have to guess that the offer is from Middlesbrough, but they aren’t explicitly named in the piece.

The ball is now in Preston’s court, given that North End had reportedly demanded at least £10million for Riis.

The situation surrounding Riis has been a little strange of late.

Riis is a confidence player and needs to feel loved, but was dropped to the bench after just two league games this season.

Riis hasn’t really looked himself as a result, and it’s probably a combination of low confidence having been dropped after a 20-goal season as well as the speculation surrounding his future.

Ryan Lowe indicated over the weekend that talks would be held with Riis today, and the striker’s agent Alan Hvedehave posted a photo flying into Manchester today.

This feels like a pivotal day now; the talks between Lowe and Riis were already mentioned, but add in his agent flying over and this reported bid being on the table and we could see movement very soon.

We would still guess that Preston will hold out for more cash, but money would need to be reinvested if Riis does move on so close to the deadline.
