Josh Harrop is training with Burton Albion as Preston look to find a new club for the transfer-listed playmaker.

At the end of the 2021-22 season, Preston had plenty of big decisions to make about their squad.

Four loanees left the club, 13 players were released and three players were transfer-listed as Ryan Lowe attempted to re-tool his squad.

Only one of those transfer-listed players has left the club so far with Tom Bayliss being released in order to facilitate a move to Shrewsbury Town.

Matthew Olosunde has been heavily involved in pre-season preparations and may well have a chance to save his Preston career.

The other player on the transfer list is playmaker Harrop, whose Preston career really hasn’t gone to plan.

North End pounced to sign Harrop from Manchester United back in 2017, just weeks after he scored in his one and only Premier League start.

The expectation was that Harrop would become a star at Preston, showing his playmaking and goalscoring ability.

After a fairly quiet first season, Harrop suffered a major injury early into the 2018-19 campaign and missed the rest of the season.

We saw some encouraging signs in the 2019-20 season with superb goals against Blackburn Rovers and Charlton Athletic, but they were just flashes in the pan.

Harrop has really struggled since being given a new contract in 2020 and has been out on loan at both Ipswich Town and Fleetwood Town.

Preston now want to offload Harrop and Burton seem to be the first serious candidate.

Football Insider claim that Burton are plotting a move for Harrop and the midfielder has been given permission to train with the Brewers ahead of a possible deal.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is taking a close look at Harrop as he weighs up a potential deal.

A parting of the ways is best for everybody and Harrop could be given a chance to shine alongside former North End teammate Louis Moult at Burton.
