Lukas Nmecha reportedly set for £11m transfer

Preston maybe didn’t see the best of Lukas Nmecha in his time at Deepdale, but what a player he has become in the last year.

North End took Nmecha on loan from Manchester City in 2018, landing something of a coup by beating a host of Championship clubs to his signature.

However, he wasn’t quite ready to lead the line for a Championship side at that stage in his development, and was often deployed out wide by Alex Neil.

Nmecha still managed 44 appearances for Preston, notching three goals and eight assists for North End before heading back to the Etihad Stadium.

Nmecha ended up on loan at Wolfsburg and Middlesbrough, enjoying little success before joining Vincent Kompany at Anderlecht – and that’s where it’s all come together for him.

With 21 goals in 41 appearances for Anderlecht last season, Nmecha started to realise his potential – and then won the Golden Boot at the Under-21 European Championships.

North End would love to have a striker like Nmecha right now, and with the 22-year-old nowhere near City’s first-team plans, he will be on the move this summer.

Forget a return to Deepdale though, as the Daily Mail report that Nmecha will be joining Wolfsburg in a huge £11million deal – more than six times North End’s record transfer fee.

RB Leipzig were also keen on Nmecha, but it’s back to Wolfsburg for the striker as he continues to prove some sections of the Preston fanbase wrong.
