Preston are interested in Nathan Byrne as the Derby County wing back prepares to become a free agent this summer.

North End are in the market for a host of signings this summer as Ryan Lowe embarks on something of a revolution.

It’s hard to keep up with all the players being linked with moves to North End this summer; agents clearly know that Preston need signings.

Preston will need a couple of wing backs in order to play as Lowe wants in his 3-5-2 system, and Byrne is the latest linked at right wing back.

Preston are interested in Nathan Byrne

Football Insider report that Preston have set their sights on signing Byrne this summer.

Byrne’s contract at Derby County expires this summer and he will be available for absolutely nothing.

The 29-year-old is bound to attract plenty of interest as a free agent and it’s suggested that Millwall and Stoke City are both keen on Bynre too.

A natural right wing back, Byrne’s pace and attacking ability make him very appealing in Lowe’s system.

Add in that Lowe has said repeatedly that he wants proven, ready-to-go Championship players and Byrne ticks the right boxes.

Diminutive but tricky, Preston saw plenty of Byrne in their promotion campaign from League One back in 2015 as the former Tottenham youngster was a constant threat with Swindon Town.

Byrne makes plenty of sense for Preston but we do have to preach some caution here.

Firstly, and we keeps saying it at the moment, any rumour that involves three clubs going after one player usually smacks of an agent-led story.

Additionally, Football Insider have linked Preston with a few names of late that have been played down by the club; Cole Stockton and Matt Ingram spring to mind.

For those reasons we’re not getting too carried away with the Byrne rumour, but he was certainly make sense for Preston.
