Preston have been linked with Newcastle United talent Elliot Anderson – but Championship rivals Millwall have joined the race.
Earlier this month, The Sunday Mirror reported that Preston were keen to bring Anderson to Deepdale this summer.
Nottingham Forest and Queens Park Rangers are also understood to be interested with Anderson a man in demand.
Now though, there is another name in the mix.
Alan Nixon reports that Millwall have joined the race to sign Anderson – and are ‘making the biggest play’ for his signature.
Preston just drew 1-1 with Millwall in the Championship and now face an off-field battle with the Lions if rumours are true.
Anderson, 19, is currently on loan at League Two side Bristol Rovers. With six goals and three assists in 19 games, Anderson is shining.
An attacking midfield player, Anderson looks to be a huge prospect and Newcastle will now look to get him a Championship spell.
Preston have shown themselves to be a great home for young loanees. Sepp van den Berg and Cameron Archer have both developed brilliantly with North End.

That may now tempt Newcastle into sending Anderson to Preston, but Millwall are a major threat in this particular race.
Preston may hope that Anderson can come on board and provide another creative force from midfield.
Daniel Johnson is Preston’s only real creative midfielder in the final third, and adding another option there is very important.
Anderson could be that player, but Newcastle may even end up wanting to keep hold of the midfielder.
This transfer rumour could go on for a while yet, with many Championship clubs no doubt preparing to send offers to Newcastle.
