Preston North End confirmed signings, transfers in and out, loan exits, releases for 2023/24

Preston North End are hard at work tackling the summer transfer window as Ryan Lowe bids to build a promotion-worthy side. So, keep up to date on all of their confirmed signings here.

The Deepdale outfit ended the 2022/23 Championship season in 12th place but only missed out on the play-offs by six points. Lowe secured 17 wins and 12 draws over the term, too. But Preston North End’s first-team squad scored just 45 goals in 46 games and conceded 59.

Just Wigan Athletic (38), Cardiff City (41) and Queens Park Rangers (44) struck fewer goals than the Lilywhites, as well. So, Lowe knows an area where Preston North End must move to make some confirmed signings through the summer transfer window to climb up the table…

Calvin Ramsay – Preston North End sealed their first confirmed signing of the summer sales on June 13 as the defender joined on loan from Liverpool. The 19-year-old will spend 23/24 at Deepdale after featuring just twice for the Reds’ first-team in 22/23 after needing surgery.

Mads Frokjaer-Jensen – Preston North End confirmed their second signing of the sales on July 11. The 23-year-old attacking midfielder headed to Deepdale from Odense BK on a four-year contract. He had spent his entire career to date at the Danish side and had 120 outings.

Duane Holmes – Preston North End confirmed the signing of the 28-year-old on July 12 from Huddersfield Town. The American midfielder moved to Deepdale for an undisclosed fee after two-and-a-half years with the Terriers. He appeared 27 times in the Championship in 22/23.

Will Keane – Preston North End confirmed the signing of the 30-year-old for an undisclosed fee from Wigan Athletic on July 14. The deal marked a return to Deepdale for the striker. He spent time on loan with the Lilywhites from Manchester United in 2015, making 22 outings.

Layton Stewart – Preston North End further reinforced their first-team with a permanent deal for the 20-year-old from Liverpool on July 22. The striker moved to Deepdale after 13 years at the Reds. He only featured in one first-team fixture after making Liverpool’s senior side.

Jack Whatmough – Preston North End preyed on the 26-year-old terminating his contract with Wigan Athletic to sign the defender on August 2. The Portsmouth product has penned a three-year deal at Deepdale. He played 37 times in the 22/23 Championship term for a goal.

All of Preston North End’s confirmed transfers out

Jacob Slater – Brighton & Hove Albion confirmed the signing of the 18-year-old from Preston North End on July 29. The left-back moved to the Amex Stadium for an undisclosed fee. He will initially play for the Seagulls’ U21s after three first-team appearances for the Lilywhites.

Bambo Diaby – Sheffield Wednesday confirmed the signing of the 25-year-old from Preston North End on August 2. He moved to Hillsborough for an undisclosed fee after 18 months at Deepdale. The centre-half played 25 times for the Lilywhites, including 18 times in 2022/23.

Every player Preston North End have sent out on loan

James Pradic – Bamber Bridge confirmed a return to the Sir Tom Finney Stadium for the 18-year-old on loan from Preston North End on July 29. The goalkeeper initially joined the NPL Premier Division side on a short-term deal in April. He will stay at the Brig until January 2024.

Finlay Cross-Adair – Preston North End agreed to loan the 18-year-old to Annan Athletic on August 3. The striker will stay with the Scottish League One team until January 31, 2024. He had a brief spell at Bamber Bridge from March to May 2023 plus six senior games at Preston.

Every player Preston North End have released in 2023

Matthew Olosunde – Preston North End confirmed that the 25-year-old would leave the club at the end of his contract in their released and retained list for the 2023/24 term on May 17. The right-back spent two years at Deepdale, making only three appearances around injuries.

Josh Onomah – Preston North End confirmed that the 26-year-old would be leaving the club at the end of his contract on June 27. The midfielder had agreed to fresh terms at Deepdale. But complications forced negotiations to continue and Lilywhites chiefs elected to move on.

Daniel Johnson – Preston North End confirmed that the 30-year-old would leave Deepdale at the end of his contract on June 27. The midfielder told the Lilywhites that he would not be signing a new deal following discussions over fresh terms after eight years with the club.

Every academy player Preston North End have released in 2023

Dana Amaral – The Lilywhites also stated in their released and retained list on May 17 that a flurry of Preston North End’s academy players would also leave Deepdale at the end of their contracts. Amaral signed for PNE in 2015 but the 19-year-old never enjoyed his senior debut.

Aaron Bennett – The Wales U19 midfielder left Preston North End at the end of his contract. He also never managed to achieve his senior bow between two loan spells with Altrincham.

Lewis Coulton – Preston North End signed the 20-year-old to youth terms in 2014 but never afforded the left-back his senior debut. The Scotland U19 international had secured a raft of loan spells at Bamber Bridge, Warrington Town, Chester and Bradford Park Avenue, though.

Harry Nevin – Preston North End elected to release another of their academy talents in the 19-year-old in 2023. The Republic of Ireland U19 defender moved to Deepdale in 2020 from Cork City’s academy. But he never made his senior bow around a loan with Nantwich Town.

Rio Pemberton – The 18-year-old will join a new club for the first time in his career after the Lilywhites released the attacker in 2023. He had only played for their academy sides before.

Finlay Wallbank – The 18-year-old will also join a new team for the first time in his fledgling career in 2023. Preston North End axed the centre-half without him making a senior outing.

Tom Cannon – Preston North End also confirmed on May 17 that the striker would return to Everton following the expiration of his loan transfer. The 20-year-old headed to Deepdale in January 2023 and scored eight goals plus an assist in 20 Championship games over his stay.

Liam Delap – Manchester City welcomed the 20-year-old back to Etihad Stadium on May 17 following the expiration of his loan transfer with Preston North End. The centre-forward hit just one goal over 15 Championship appearances after arriving at Deepdale in January 2023.

Alvaro Fernandez – Preston North End sent the 20-year-old back to Manchester United after the expiration of his loan transfer on May 17. The left-back had featured 42 times for Lowe’s team in all competitions, including in 39 Championship games, after joining in July 2022.

Troy Parrott – The 21-year-old returned to Tottenham Hotspur on May 17 at the expiration of his loan transfer with Preston North End. He scored three goals in 32 Championship matches and once in two EFL Cup ties during his time at Deepdale after signing for Lowe in July 2022.
