Lee Erwin completes ‘life-changing’ Lebanon transfer after strange Preston North End rumour

Preston North End won’t be signing Lee Erwin after the Scottish striker penned a deal with Lebanese side Al Ahed.

Goals came like buses for Ched Evans on Friday night.

After almost a year without a goal, the Welshman scored twice in a 2-1 win at Reading.

The hope is that Evans can keep chipping in with goals to help Emil Riis in the final third.

North End absolutely still need another striker in January though after Ryan Lowe wanted two in the summer but could only sign Troy Parrott.

PNE will likely have targets in mind for January but one bizarre rumour emerged in October.

Football Insider reported that North End were readying a contract offer for Scottish forward Lee Erwin.

We noted at the time that a deal for Erwin would have been bizarre.

The 28-year-old had been struggling for goals in Scotland with the likes of Kilmarnock, Ross County and St Mirren.

Formerly of Leeds United, Erwin headed to Finland with FC Haka and smashed 21 goals in 35 games.

Erwin briefly joined North End boss Lowe at Bury back in 2015 but a reunion at Deepdale just never really made sense.

Erwin has never really proven that he would be a Championship goalscorer and even on a free transfer it wouldn’t have boosted North End’s goalscoring ranks.

Well, a deal can officially be ruled out now anyway.

Erwin has instead made a move to Lebanon with Al Ahed.

Al Ahed – the eight-time winners of the Lebanese Premier League – confirmed Erwin’s arrival on Saturday.

The Scottish Sun claim that Al Ahead are ‘cash-rich’ and Erwin has signed a ‘life-changing’ deal in southern Beirut.

We can now cross Erwin off the list of possible January signings, though we can’t really say we expected a deal to happen.
