Preston North End are being linked with Notts County striker Macaulay Langstaff – the man being branded the ‘non-league Erling Haaland’.

For all of those who still rue the club’s decision to not sign Jamie Vardy from Halifax Town back in 2011, this one is for you.

That’s right, PNE are allegedly keen on a non-league striker who can’t stop scoring.

Football Insider claim that North End are interested in snapping up Notts County striker Langstaff.

It’s stated that Cardiff City, Swansea City and Bristol City are also chasing Langstaff ahead of the January transfer window.

Langstaff, 25, has spent his entire career in non-league football with Gateshead, Blyth Spartans, York City, Notts County and the brilliantly-named Billingham Synthonia.

Notts County swooped to sign Langstaff from Gateshead over the summer and he is becoming something of a goal machine.

18 goals in 19 National League games this season has been astonishing and even earned Langstaff the tag of ‘the non-league Erling Haaland’.

The goals were flowing at former club Gateshead too, bagging 30 goals in 47 games for the club.

Any time there are three or more clubs linked with one player, we immediately start thinking that this agent talk.

To be fair, any agent not trying to capitalise on Langstaff’s form and that Haaland comparison wouldn’t really be doing their job.

There are parallels to Vardy in that the Leicester City striker was also 25 when he stepped out of non-league football.

Those players don’t come along very often but Langstaff will hope to mirror Vardy in earning a move to the Football League soon.

Whether an immediate step to the Championship comes is unclear but PNE may just be doing their due diligence in looking at a striker who is finding the net for fun.
