Preston North End are being linked with a move to sign former Liverpool attacker Liam Millar, who now plays for Swiss side Basel.
North End are desperate for attacking additions ahead of Friday’s transfer deadline.
Will Keane has been leading the line on his own in the opening weeks of the season with Ched Evans and Emil Riis still out.
Layton Stewart isn’t considered to be ready for first-team action after arriving from Liverpool this summer.
That means attacking additions are the key for PNE in the final hours of the transfer window – and we’re starting to see more rumours emerge.
PNE look set to miss out on Everton striker Tom Cannon and must now turn attentions elsewhere.
One name in the mix is Liam Millar with Football Insider reporting that PNE are keen on the Basel forward.
Cardiff City, Sheffield Wednesday, Rotherham United and Blackburn Rovers are also mentioned as being in the race, so this could be an agent-led story.
Millar does seem to tick boxes for PNE though given his ability to play across the front line and the pace he provides.
Who is PNE target Liam Millar?
Millar hails from Canada and started his career with Ontario-based clubs North Mississauga and Burlington YSC.
Fulham pounced to sign Millar at the age of just 13 and he landed himself a move to Liverpool just three years later.
Millar impressed in the Liverpool ranks, racking up 17 goals and eight assists in 37 games for their Under-18’s.
Millar then racked up nine goals and six assists in 38 Under-21 games for Liverpool but only ever made one first-team appearance.

The 23-year-old had two loan spells away from Liverpool, first joining Kilmarnock for a year between January 2019 and January 2020, recording two goals and three assists in 36 games.
Millar’s next stop was Charlton Athletic, joining the Addicks on loan in January 2021 as he bagged three goals and an impressive six assists in 27 outings.
Liverpool decided to sell Millar that summer, agreeing a £1.3million deal with Swiss side Basel despite interest from Blackpool and Mads Frøkjær-Jensen’s former club Odense.
Millar has now turned out 98 times for Basel, notching 13 goals and 10 assists.
Millar – who has 21 caps for Canada to his name – still has two years left on his contract so Basel will surely demand a decent fee for his signature.
Primarily a winger for Basel, Millar has also played up front and may be seen as a player to bring an injection of pace alongside Frøkjær-Jensen and Keane in attack.
