Preston North End are interested in snapping up Philadelphia Union defender Stuart Findlay, battling Blackpool for his signature.

That’s according to Football Insider, who claim that Findlay is attracting major interest in this month’s transfer window.

They state that Preston would like Findlay at Deepdale, but North End are far from alone in the race.

Bitter rivals Blackpool as well as Sheffield Wednesday, Portsmouth, Plymouth Argyle, Barnsley, Oxford United, Hibernian and Harts are thought to be keen.

Findlay allegedly fancies a move this month having not exactly enjoyed his time in Major League Soccer with Philadelphia Union.

Formerly of Celtic and Newcastle United, Findlay impressed with Kilmarnock, picking up one Scotland cap in the process.

In February 2021, Findlay chose to leave Scotland for Philadelphia Union. Sadly for the defender, he has only played nine times for the MLS side.

Findlay unsurprisingly wants more playing time, and a return to the UK could be on the cards.

We doubt that Preston will be making a move for Findlay though, even if his left-footed nature would fit into Ryan Lowe’s style.

Andrew Hughes has that left-sided role nailed down though, and Greg Cunningham makes more sense as a left-sided centre back under Lowe.

Cunningham isn’t quite suited as a wing back at this stage, so he may spend more time in the back three moving forward.

A wing back is a much higher priority than a left-sided defender unless Cunningham leaves, so we’re not expecting Findlay to come in.
