According to Football Insider, Preston are interested in signing Crewe Alexandra winger Owen Dale at the end of the season.
It’s stated that Dale’s performances for Crewe have attracted major interest, and Preston are now looking into moving for him this summer.
However, Preston aren’t alone in the race for Dale, with local rivals Blackburn Rovers also believed to be interested in signing the wide man.
Add in that Sunderland and Ipswich Town are also thought to be keen on Dale, and bringing him to Deepdale won’t be easy at all.
Dale, 22, has been in great form this season, notching 12 goals and three assists in 47 games for Crewe in a fine campaign for David Artell’s side.
A speedy right-sided winger, Dale could be seen as competition for Tom Barkhuizen and a long-term replacement for loanee Anthony Gordon.
Yet with North End playing a winger-less 3-4-1-2 of late, you would have to question just where exactly Dale would fit in if Frankie McAvoy lands the job full time.
Dale is out of contract in 2022, meaning North End may feel they can get a bargain, and may hope that Dale has the same stance as Patrick Bauer and Ben Whiteman in preferring Preston to Blackburn.
