Preston were linked with a bizarre move for Ravel Morrison but it looks like he will instead follow Wayne Rooney to D.C. United.

North End are linked with numerous players in every transfer window with some having more truth than others.

One of the more bizarre rumours this time around involved playmaker Ravel Morrison.

Football Insider claimed in June that Preston were battling Sunderland and Huddersfield Town in the race for Morrison.

Morrison’s contract at Derby County came to an end this summer and he has been seeking a new club.

Morrison, 29, played 35 Championship games last season as he picked up four goals and four assists for Derby.

The playmaker has real talent but has sometimes struggled for consistency, fitness or with off-field problems.

Wayne Rooney seemed to get Morrison back on track at Derby and some Championship clubs may well have been interested.

Morrison is now on the verge of a move but it’s not to the Championship; instead, he’ll be heading to Major League Soccer.

The Athletic report that Morrison is on the verge of signing a two-and-a-half-year deal with D.C. United, who have just appointed Rooney as their new manager.

It seems that Rooney has pushed for Morrison to join him in the States and a deal is now very close to being completed, with the midfielder earning just shy of £14,000-a-week in MLS.

This will be a new challenge for Morrison, who will be hoping to thrive under Rooney again.

Morrison never really made sense as a Preston target and this move to America will finally rule out any move to Deepdale once and for all.

We suspect it was agent work putting Preston’s name into the mix and that North End never really had an interest in Morrison, but it can now be crossed off the list regardless.
