Preston are looking unlikely to do much business before tonight’s transfer deadline, and appear to have missed out on a striking addition.
Lancs Live report that North End had targeted a top-flight striker on loan, but they ended up going elsewhere on Monday.
No name was given on that report, so just who were North End looking to sign?
Two names stick out from the players who departed Premier League clubs on Monday – Mipo Odubeko and Andi Zeqiri.
Odubeko is a former Manchester United talent and Republic of Ireland youth international – two criteria that have appealed to Preston in years gone by.
Currently with West Ham United, the 18-year-old has hit 15 goals in 13 games for their Under-23’s as well as 11 gaols and three assists in nine Under-18 games.
Odubeko isn’t close to West Ham’s first team though, and they have now decided to loan him out to Huddersfield Town for first-team experience.
Preston may have wanted a favour from former boss David Moyes, but Odubeko joined Huddersfield yesterday.
The other player who fits the criteria is Andi Zeqiri, who left Brighton and Hove Albion for German side Augsburg on Monday.
The 22-year-old striker cost Brighton £3.5million last summer having hit 22 goals for Lausanne in the 2019-20 campaign.
After only nine Premier League appearances, Brighton have sent the 6ft 1in centre forward to Germany for first-team games.
If we had to guess, we’d edge with Odubeko as the mystery man, and North End don’t look like signing anybody before tonight’s deadline.
