Preston missed out on striker Michael Obafemi back in August – and the Swansea City man is already attracting interest from the Premier League clubs.
North End were desperate for an attacking addition before the summer transfer deadline.
In the end, winger Josh Murphy arrived on loan from Cardiff City in what proved to be a largely forgettable deal.
Murphy just never really fit into a team that mostly played with wing backs and two strikers.
Preston did go for a striker though as they rivalled Swansea City for Southampton striker Michael Obafemi.
Hampshire Live noted that Preston wanted Obafemi and we understand North End were willing to match the £1.5million rising to £2million deal Swansea struck.
Obafemi chose Swansea but that move looked like backfiring when manager Russell Martin publicly questioned his professionalism.
Obafemi has got right back on track though and now has 11 goals in 29 Championship games this season.
The 21-year-old has smashed eight goals and three assists in his last 12 games for the Swans, ending the campaign in blistering form.
It looks like the Irishman is on the right track now, and it means Premier League clubs are watching.

The Telegraph report that top-flight teams are looking towards Obafemi as a potential signing for this summer’s transfer window.
Swansea would be expecting a ‘tidy profit’ on Obafemi, potentially making millions on the striker in less than a year.
That’s the kind of signing Preston would no doubt love to make now – a player who can score goals and ultimately earn the club a profit.
Emil Riis is on track to do that but pairing him with Obafemi could have given Preston a killer strikeforce.
At least Obafemi’s success shows that Preston are looking in the right areas, and hopefully a striker of similar quality can be found this summer.
