Preston won’t be signing Motherwell striker Tony Watt after he agreed a surprise move to Scottish Premiership rivals Dundee United.
North End are likely to be in the market for a new striker in January and have been linked with some potential signings.
One of them was Watt, with Football League World claiming that Preston wanted to bring the 27-year-old to Deepdale.
Watt has been an absolute nomad in his career, turning out for Celtic, Lierse, Standard Liege, Charlton Athletic, Cardiff City, Blackburn, Hearts, OH Leuven, St Johnstone and CSKA Sofia.
Now with Motherwell, Watt has been in strong goalscoring form this season having found the net nine times in 19 league games.
Out of contract at the end of the season, Watt could have been a bargain target for Preston to bolster Ryan Lowe’s attack.
You have to question whether Watt really fits the bill for Lowe, especially having failed to settle anywhere in recent years.
Watt won’t be joining North End after all having decided to make a shock move.

Rather than head to England, Watt has signed a pre-contact agreement with Dundee United, joining a Scottish Premiership rival.
Watt has rejected a new deal with Motherwell and will now turn out for Dundee United from next season.
Motherwell assistant Chris Lucketti – former Preston captain – has indicated that Watt will still be selected despite his decision.
For Preston, this is just another rumour to tick off the list.
