Will Keane didn’t impress at Preston but the Wigan Athletic star is now being targeted for a big Championship move this summer.
North End fans will remember Keane arriving on loan from Manchester United back in 2015.
Keane joined after Preston’s promotion with the vision of him supporting Jermain Beckford and Joe Garner in attack.
Highly-rated at United, Keane appeared to be a great signing for North End but it just didn’t work out.
Will Keane didn’t impress at Preston
Keane played 20 games in the Championship for Preston but only managed one goal.
That goal was a fine one – a great strike to help beat Burnley 2-0 at Turf Moor against his brother Michael – but Keane was gone within weeks of that goal.
Keane asked Manchester United to take him back, seemingly believing that he could help Louis van Gaal’s striking issues.
Keane played just once in the Premier League for United after leaving North End.
A frustrating time with Hull City followed and a stint with Ipswich Town didn’t go much better.
It has all changed at Wigan though as Keane smashed a ridiculous 27 goals and seven assists in 50 games this past season.
Now 29, Keane appears to be putting it all together and looks a more rounded striker than the one we saw at Preston some seven years ago.
Keane has been so good for Wigan that he is now attracting major interest this summer.
The Sun report that Queens Park Rangers, Sheffield United and Watford are lining up moves to sign Keane this summer.
Keane is allegedly valued at around £1million and is even wanted by Belgian giants Club Brugge.
Few could have expected this kind of rise from Keane after his disappointing spell at Preston, but we could soon see the striker make a seven-figure transfer this summer.
