Rangers have long been linked with a move to sign Daniel Johnson – but Preston’s hopes of keeping him appear to be rising.

The Gers made a £1.5million bid to sign Johnson back in September, with Preston rejecting the move and keeping hold of the playmaker.

Johnson is out of contract at the end of the season though, and reports from Football Insider claim that Rangers want to hand him a pre-contract agreement.

Now though, two updates have emerged about the situation, starting with Rangers’ transfer plans, with a different midfielder set for a move to Ibrox.

The Scottish Sun report that Rangers have secured a pre-contract agreement with Bournemouth midfielder Nnamdi Ofoborh, and he will be heading to Glasgow in the summer.

Given that Rangers also have Ryan Jack, Steven Davis, Scott Arfield, Joe Aribo and Glen Kamara as well as loanee Bongani Zungu, it’s hard to imagine that Johnson will be wanted too.

Additionally, Neil has now admitted to Lancs Live that he thinks Johnson wants to stay, and Preston may just be ‘bits and pieces’ away from getting a deal done.

From fearing that Johnson could leave for nothing to Rangers, Preston may suddenly have hope of keeping the Jamaican international and tying him down to a new contract in what would be a major boost.
