According to the Doncaster Free Press, Doncaster Rovers midfielder Ben Whiteman was left out of today’s game against Blackburn Rovers because his head has been turned by Preston’s interest.
Whiteman missed today’s FA Cup clash at Ewood Park, which seemed very interesting given that Preston made a bid for him earlier this week.
The initial claims were that Whiteman was left out having struggled to recover after returning a positive test from the ongoing global pandemic.

However, it’s now stated that Darren Moore left Whiteman out in order to protect him, as his head has been turned by the interest in his signature.
It’s stated that Whiteman wants a move that will allow him to remain in Greater Manchester, given that he currently commutes to Doncaster.

Whiteman was born in Rochdale and was in the Manchester United ranks, so a move to Preston would certainly make sense for him.

Preston now need to come up with a suitable offer for Donny, as all this talk may just trigger some interest from other Championship clubs.
Whiteman does seem to fancy a move to Preston, and adding him would be hugely exciting if Ben Pearson does, as expected, move on this summer.
