Huddersfield Town midfielder Duane Holmes is expected to undergo a medical with Preston North End very soon.

That is according to report from The Sun’s Alan Nixon, who claims that PNE are trying to secure the signing of Holmes.

It’s stated that Holmes is due to be in Lancashire any time soon in order to hold talks about a move.

Nixon even claims that a medical could take place soon and that Huddersfield boss Neil Warnock is happy to move him on.

Nixon highlights that Holmes almost signed for PNE in the January transfer window but the deal should finally go through now.

Duane Holmes has history with Ryan Lowe

Holmes has bags of Championship experience having racked up 182 appearances in the second tier.

The 28-year-old has played pretty much all over the park and would provide Ryan Lowe with a versatile option.

Lowe actually knows Holmes from their time together at Bury.

Holmes joined Bury on loan back in 2014, featuring five times with Lowe across games in League Two and the EFL Trophy.

That may have been nine years ago but Lowe seemingly hasn’t forgotten about what Holmes can provide.

The pair now seem to be closing in on a reunion, adding another attacking midfielder to the mix after the signing of Mads Frøkjær-Jensen earlier today.

Holmes injury record a worry

The big concern here is Holmes’ injury record.

The American has played just five times in 2023 having struggled with two different injuries.

Holmes picked up a calf injury against Coventry City at the end of January and wasn’t able to return until the 1st of April.

Holmes started in a 4-2 win over Middlesbrough but lasted just 25 minutes.

This injury was a freak one; Holmes blocked a shot and it caused ankle ligament damage, ruling him out for the final weeks of the season.

PNE will need to be thorough with this alleged medical to make sure Holmes will be available regularly next season and beyond rather than in the treatment room.
