Preston North End are now considered unlikely to secure the signature of Manchester United midfielder Dan Gore during the January window.

The January transfer window is open but few PNE supporters are really thinking about incoming signings.

Maybe it’s an acceptance that the budget won’t be particularly large, maybe it’s just a pure focus on North End’s dire form and the future of boss Ryan Lowe.

We are expecting a fairly quiet month in terms of transfers regardless of how Lowe’s future pans out, and one rumour is now being played down…

Dan Gore to Preston North End now considered ‘unlikely’

Reports in December indicated that PNE have expressed an interest in signing Manchester United teenager Dan Gore on loan.

An exciting midfield talent with a big future ahead of him, Gore has been around the United first-team setup this season and made his Premier League debut on Boxing Day.

Gore has been bumped up the pecking order due to injures to the likes of Casemiro and Mason Mount, and he may be needed in the coming weeks with Sofyan Amrabat and Hannibal Mejbri heading to the Africa Cup of Nations.

The Daily Mail now report that Gore to PNE is considered ‘unlikely’ and he is actually more likely to end up in League One.

United want Gore to be playing regular first-team football and seemingly believe a League One move will help more than a Championship switch.

PNE do have other midfield options with the likes of Ben Whiteman, Ali McCann, Ryan Ledson and Alan Browne all in the mix.

United may fear that Gore would struggle to get into the PNE side, but North End’s recent displays leave us to think that he would have a great chance of featuring regularly.

North End have decent links to United after Alvaro Fernandez’s successful loan spell last season but it now sounds like Gore won’t follow in the Spaniard’s footsteps after all.

PNE may look elsewhere for potential signings but it may be a case of Premier League loans or nothing after investing in Mads Frøkjær-Jensen and Milutin Osmajic over the summer.
