Preston don’t have a manager right now, but that doesn’t mean rumours about potential new signings have slowed down.
North End have been linked with the likes of James Collins and Otis Khan over the last week, and another name can now be added to the list in Rochdale striker Stephen Humphrys.
The72 report an exclusive story that Humphrys is on Preston’s wish list for the summer. They’re a website that focus entirely on the Football League, but we’re not entirely sure how strong their sources are.
Still, they state that Preston are one of three clubs showing the most interest in Humphrys, alongside Blackburn Rovers and Stoke City.
Nottingham Forest, Sheffield Wednesday and Bristol City are also claimed to be keen, and whenever more than three clubs are linked with a player, you immediately think it’s an agent attempting to get a player’s name out there.
Humphrys, 23, has hit nine goals and four assists in 25 games this season, starring under ex-Preston ace Brian Barry-Murphy at Rochdale.
Formerly of Bury, Fulham and Southend United, Humphrys has just over a year left on his contract, and Rochdale may not be able to turn down the cash this summer.
Humphrys has only scored twice in his last 12 outings for Rochdale, but he has shown quality this season; he’s well-built at 6ft 1in, whilst he is both dangerous in the air and tricky with the ball at his feet.
Humphrys may be a name to keep an eye on if Preston don’t manage to keep hold of Ched Evans, and potentially a low-cost option to bolster the attack.
