Report claims Preston have failed to sign Jordan Morris

Earlier this week, the Lancashire Evening Post reported that Preston North End had targeted a mystery striker in Major League Soccer.

The identity of the striker has now been revealed, with Seattle Sounders attacker Jordan Morris targeted – but the details don’t look good.

MLS Soccer report that North End expressed an interest in Morris through US-based intermediate agents, but official talks never took place.

The report notes that Preston learned that Morris was far beyond the club’s budget, so chose not to advance the move any further.

Seattle allegedly see Morris as one of the top players in Major League Soccer, and want to receive a fee that reflects his quality – something Preston just couldn’t afford.

Any move for Morris now appears to be dead, which will leave fans wondering whether the report was leaked to the LEP in order to try and show fans that attempts were being made to sign a striker, even if a deal never looked likely.

Morris, 25, has hit six goals in 10 games this season, with his tally for the Sounders now at 36 goals in 109 games since joining in 2016.

A versatile attacker, Morris had a trial with Werder Bremen in 2016, and has already racked up 10 goals in 39 caps for the US national team.

Morris always seemed like a lofty target for North End to be going for, so it’s no huge surprise that Preston have been priced out – and they are running out of time to bring in the new striker Alex Neil desperately needs.
