According to Football Insider, Preston defender Josh Earl is heading to Burton Albion on loan for the rest of the season.
We understand that Swindon Town and Shrewsbury Town had both shown an interest in Earl, but it’s Burton who will be signing him.
Greg Cunningham’s return from Cardiff City pointed towards Earl being loaned out again, especially with Andrew Hughes only out with a knock to his shoulder.
Burton appear to have won the race for Earl, who will now join a relegation battle at the Pirelli Stadium.
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s side sit bottom of the League One table with just three wins in 24 league games, seven points adrift of safety.
Earl will seemingly look to aid the Brewers in their fight agains the drop, and this is now a third League One loan spell for the 22-year-old.
He spent the first half of last season with Bolton Wanderers before then joining Ipswich Town, but the global pandemic ultimately ruined that move.
Earl has shown promise in recent games in terms of his ability going forward, but he still looks shaky defensively – and Alex Neil may now hope to see Earl develop with regular game time at Burton.
