Some Preston fans may not have fancied Lukas Nmecha very much, but he’s making those fans eat their words.
Nmecha joined North End on loan in 2018 to much fanfare, with fans buzzing to see the Manchester City talented in a Preston shirt.
He didn’t quite fit as a striker, but still managed three goals and eight assists whilst predominantly playing as a winger.
Anderlecht saw the best of Nmecha
Having blown hot and cold whilst showing glimpses of his talent at Preston, Nmecha struggled at Wolfsburg and then Middlesbrough.
Vincent Kompany brought him to Anderlecht, and his faith was repaid as Nmecha smashed 21 goals in 41 outings.
Nmecha exploded at Under-21 Euros
The 22-year-old has really hit the headlines of late though, as he hit four goals in five games to fire Germany to Under-21 European Championship glory.
Nmecha bagged the winner in the final to win the golden boot ahead of the likes of Patrick Cutrone and Myron Boadu.
Nmecha’s price tag has now shot up
Now firmly in the shop window, City have increased Nmecha’s price tag from €8million to €12million (£10.5million) according to Het Nieuwsblad in Belgium.
Nmecha didn’t show this kind of goalscoring form at Preston, but will now likely join Andy Carroll, Danny Welbeck, Josh King and Stephy Mavididi in carving out a great career after a forgettable Preston loan spell.
