Preston North End are now moving closer to signing Liverpool defender Calvin Ramsay on loan for the season.

That is according to reporter Pete O’Rourke, who claims that Ramsay has now agreed a loan move to North End.

O’Rourke notes that the deal should be finalised in the next 24 hours with Ramsay trading Anfield for Deepdale.

Ramsay is available for loan after a rather frustrating first season at Liverpool.

The Scot joined Liverpool in a £4million move last summer having dazzled for hometown club Aberdeen.

Breaking into a Liverpool side containing Trent Alexander-Arnold was never going to be easy but Ramsay barely had the chance.

The 19-year-old had a back injury picked up his medical and then suffered a knee injury in January.

That means Ramsay was limited to just two first-team appearances this past season and just five in the Under-21’s.

Ramsay did though manage two goals in those five games, again showing his outstanding attacking ability.

Ramsay was known for his play going forward at Aberdeen, racking up nine assists in just 39 first-team outings.

Liverpool now want to see Ramsay go out and play regular first-team football – something PNE can offer.

Brad Potts has done a fine job adapting to the right wing back role but Ryan Lowe may now want a little more attacking dynamism.

Ramsay can provide that and, if he can stay fit, he should play a prominent role for PNE.

The hope is that Ramsay can kick on and develop in a North End shirt just as Sepp van den Berg did after leaving Liverpool on loan.

This seems like a very exciting move for PNE as long as Ramsay can avoid more injuries, finally giving North End the natural right wing back option that has been lacking for a long, long time.
