According to Football Insider, Preston lead the race to sign Liverpool defender Sepp van den Berg ahead of Monday’s transfer deadline.

It’s claimed that other Championship sides and even European clubs are keen to sign Van Den Berg, who has been given the green light to go out on loan.

North End are believed to be at the front of the queue for the 19-year-old, with talks allegedly underway over a deal to sign the Dutchman.

Van den Berg joined Liverpool from PEC Zwolle in 2019, with the Reds paying around £1.3million to sign the centre back.

Back in 2019, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp called Van den Berg an ‘outstanding’ talent, but he hasn’t quite made the breakthrough at Anfield yet.

The teenager has managed just four first-team appearances for Liverpool, and hasn’t played at all in the first team this season despite many injuries in Klopp’s back line.

Liverpool seemingly feel that the time is right for Van den Berg to go out and play senior football until the end of the season, hopefully aiding his development.

Van den Berg is right-footed, meaning he would be a temporary replacement for Patrick Bauer rather than a like-for-like replacement for left-footed Davies.

Liverpool’s demands over loan players starting games have put Preston off numerous players in the past, but Van den Berg could just change their mind.
