According to Gloucestershire Live, Cheltenham Town defender Will Boyle is still wanted by Preston North End this summer.
It’s claimed that Sheffield Wednesday have ended their interest in the centre back despite seemingly leading the race.
Boyle was named in the League Two Team of the Year and could be on the move despite winning promotion with Cheltenham.
The Owls may have backed out but North End are still thought to be keen on signing the 25-year-old this summer.
Preston do need defensive reinforcements this summer, and Boyle’s performances under Michael Duff appear to have put him on the radar.
Boyle is big and strong at 6ft 3in tall, and has proven himself to be a goal threat with seven goals this past season.
He’s a left-footer too, but there would be questions over whether he really has the pace to play on the left side of a back three, where he would be dragged out into wide areas.
Boyle seems to be a similar profile to Liam Lindsay but without the Championship experience, and he could well be a fallback option if the Scot doesn’t sign permanently this summer.
