According to The Telegraph, Preston are looking into signing Luton Town striker James Collins this summer.
It’s claimed that North End are challenging Derby County and Major League Soccer sides in the race to sign Collins.
His Luton deal ends this summer, meaning he will be able to move for free at the end of the season.
Collins, 30, has hit seven goals in 33 Championship games this season, though three of them came in one game – ironically, against Preston.
Collins is big and physical, but adding him wouldn’t really make sense unless Preston don’t plan to keep Ched Evans beyond the end of the season.
An Irish international, Collins knows Alan Browne and Jayson Molumby well, and he isn’t the only Luton player Preston allegedly fancy.
Defender Sonny Bradley – also out of contract this summer – has been linked with North End too, meaning Preston could pull off a double raid on the Hatters.
Much will depend on whether North End want youth or experience this summer, as Collins and Bradley are both experienced and battle-hardened, but offer limited resale value.
