Sheffield Wednesday are interested in re-signing Preston North End defender Jordan Storey after winning promotion.

That is according to a report from Yorkshire Live, who claim that Wednesday would like to bring Storey back to Hillsborough.

PNE loaned Storey to Wednesday back in January 2022, allowing him to go and play first-team minutes in League One.

Storey helped the Owls reach the playoffs, only to lose to Sunderland in the semi-finals.

Ryan Lowe decided to bring Storey back into the PNE fold for the 2022-23 season and he racked up 43 Championship starts.

The 25-year-old has got his PNE career back on track and prising him away won’t be easy.

Wednesday seemingly hope that they can lure Storey back having joined PNE in the Championship but a decent fee would be required.

PNE struck a deal thought to be worth around £750,000 to sign Storey from Exeter City in 2018.

Five years on and with Storey an important part of Lowe’s back three, North End would surely at least want their money back.

Should Preston North End sell Jordan Storey?

PNE need to get back to selling players and reinvesting cash in more players with resale value.

Craig Hemmings has outlined that he wants to use this approach moving forward but it is difficult to pull off.

If what Brentford and Brighton have done is easy, every club would do it.

Sadly, PNE likely need a sale or two to kickstart this kind of philosophy.

Freddie Woodman has been linked away and if Ben Whiteman won’t sign a new deal this summer, he may be available for transfer.

Then there is Storey, who is now attracting interest in what would be a permanent move.

Storey is of a good age at 25 and still has two years left to run on his contract.

That leaves PNE in a strong position to demand a hefty sum, possibly into seven figures for the defender.

If that offer comes and PNE can effectively reinvest the cash, it may be wise to sell Storey and hopefully use the money wisely.
