Preston will be in the market for at least one centre back this summer – but it doesn’t look like Sonny Bradley will be arriving.
North End needed a left-sided centre back in January with Ben Davies heading off to Liverpool, and brought in Liam Lindsay on loan from Stoke City.
There was another left-footed defender linked in January though, as The Sun’s Alan Nixon suggested that Luton Town’s Bradley was on the radar.
An experienced performer at 29 and a great leader in his role as Luton captain, Bradley has fared well in the Championship and is available for free this summer with his contract expiring.
Bradley’s suitability for Preston has drifted a little with Frankie McAvoy playing a 3-5-2, as Bradley doesn’t quite have the pace to play as a left-sided centre back in a three.
Now, the East Anglian Daily Times claim that whilst Preston have shown an interest, but Bradley is edging towards a move to Ipswich Town.
The League One side are considered favourites to sign Bradley, with their new American owners willing to back Paul Cook financially.
The Tractor Boys may subsequently be able to offer more in wages that North End, despite being in the league blow.
If Preston sign a left-footed centre back, they need to be more mobile, in the Davies mould. Bradley doesn’t really fit the bill, but missing out to a League One side may leave some worried.
