According to The Athletic, Leeds United are set to keep hold of attacker Tyler Roberts amid recent links with Preston North End.

It’s claimed that Roberts is keen to stay at Elland Road, and boss Marcelo Bielsa is in no rush to push him out of the club.

Bielsa is described as being ‘sympathetic’ over Roberts and his frustrations at not playing this season, and using him as a substitute against Brighton and Hove Albion shows that he is still in the first-team plans.

That means Roberts won’t be leaving Elland Road any time soon, and certainly won’t be coming to Preston.

The Daily Mail reported earlier this month that Preston had communicated their interest in taking Roberts on loan for the rest of the season.

Bournemouth, Cardiff City, Derby County and Sheffield Wednesday are also thought to be keen, but are set to suffer disappointment alongside North End.

Would Roberts have made sense for Preston? Well, not really if intended to play up front; North End have added one striker this month and even with Jayden Stockley moved on, it’s hard to imagine another striker being added.

The Welshman could have been a smart addition as a number 10 had Daniel Johnson moved on, but that hasn’t happened yet.

With Bielsa keen to keep him, Roberts – a £4million signing from West Brom in 2018 – is a name to cross off the list for Preston in the final stages of the window.
