According to Lancs Live, Preston are closing in on two signings; one permanent and one loan, in a positive start to the January transfer window.
North End need reinforcements this month, regardless of whether or not some of the club’s contract rebels are on the move.
The report doesn’t name the players, though does draw attention to Doncaster Rovers ace Ben Whiteman wanting a move to Deepdale.
We believe Whiteman is indeed a permanent target, with a seven-figure deal potentially on the cards, though Middlesbrough’s Lewis Wing has also been looked at.

The 24-year-old has shown an ability to run the game from a holding midfield role, as he did against Preston in an FA Cup tie back in January 2019, but he can also play box-to-box, and has bagged eight goals in 23 games this season.

Whiteman’s possible arrival will lead to fears that Ben Pearson is on his way, with Whiteman certainly fitting the mould as a replacement for the Celtic target.
As for the loan signing, we believe that Brighton and Hove Albion’s Jayson Molumby is a player on the radar, in what would be another midfield boost.

Molumby, 21, impressed on loan at Millwall last season, but has struggled for first-team playing time with the Seagulls, meaning another loan could be on the cards.
The Irishman will know Alan Browne and Seani Maguire from international duty, and the Lancashire Evening Post back up that both Whiteman and Molumby are wanted at Deepdale.
Preston are already well-stocked in midfield, and whilst Whiteman coming in to replace Browne makes sense, we’re not really sure where Molumby would fit in.
Still, Molumby can add another box-to-box presence in the Preston midfield, and would come in handy should Browne or Daniel Johnson end up leaving this month.
